Change Your Website’s Index File using the .htaccess file
How To: Change Your Website’s Index File
a simple trick using the .htaccess file
A simple tutorial which only involves editing one little file. Useful for those of us who have mime-typed extensions or who are creating lots of test design files and want an easy way to make the design they like best their default file.
- Create a file called .htaccess in the /public_html/ folder if you don’t have it. I think one should be there already when you get your site so if it isn’t you should create it anyway!
- In the file write the following: CODE
DirectoryIndex newindex.file - Replace newindex.file with the file you want your index page to be.
- Open your website and if all has worked well, you should have your customized index page.

There are several advantages to shopping online, the first one being the ability to shop at a time that is convenient to you, not just when the shops are open. The second advantage of shopping online is that goods are often cheaper as the seller does not have the costs of running a shop and having to pay wages to salespeople, insurance and all of the other running costs of a real world business.

This is a simple tip for younger drivers, especially under 25′s. Find an older person and put them as a second driver on your insurance. This works best if you can find a female in her 40′s or 50′s. Why is it cheaper?

I installed some software to desktop and mucked it all up and had icons all over the desk top, so created new folder to desktop and draged them into this new folder, but some of my other shortcuts got mixed into this, tried to restore them back to desktop but now cannot find them in any folders and this message come up when try to open the icon (the item ‘letter to XXXX.xml’ that this shortcut refers to has been changed or moved, so this short cut no longer works. do you want to delete it) when it was written it was saved just to the desktop (i think!!!-my partner wrote and it i mucked it up!!) is it automatically saved else where as well, but we just don’t know where to find it?? tried searching but nothing came up, please i really need to find it.

I am using Windows 7 Professional connected to a domain on a 2003Server. Everything is working fine except the printers. The Win 7 Pc can find the shared network printers fine, but when I try to connect it refuses to use the 64-bit drivers included with Win 7. It does search Windows Update but again with no success. I tried installing a local copy of the printer to load the drivers, but even after this I get an error meddage saying that “can’t connect to printer” with an error code. I found a solution with an HP Laserjet by installing a 64-bit driver on the server under the additional drivers tab. However I have other printers (e.g. Epson LQ-590) where there is no downloadable driver – it is an inbox driver in Windows 7. Does anyone know how to get round this problem and install the printers?

For many moons now, your humble Autoblog crew has been following the new Saab 9-5 around the globe. Not intentionally mind you, but it seems that Saab has been dragging their 9-5 show car out to every show we’ve covered since before Obama was elected. Which is many, many shows (turns out it’s been since Frankfurt). And while we’re big boosters of the new 9-5, something’s always been… lacking.

Hi. Let me start off by saying I am a technophobe so if you can help, please answer in no techie language (make it stupid proof so I can undersand it!) Gone to switch on my PC this morning, gone in to the normal family user account (which is an administrator account) and I get the black screen. I tried signing in through the Administrator account and my son’s account (which has administrator rights) and I get the same. Signed in through anon administrator account and the desk top pops up fine. Basically the problem seems to be with profiles that have administrator rights. I cant make adminsrator changes through non adminstrator accounts (I had thought about deletin and re-adding the effected accounts) Any ideas how to resolve this? (PS my son and daughter are both now on Macs and are loving the fact that I am having a problem with Windows!!) Many thanks
