Summary of Traffic Rules

Please find below, summary of important rules.

1. At the traffic signal junctions:

a. Go ahead only when the signal turns green for you.

b. If the signal is red, you must stop, even for a left turn.

c. If you see the signal turn from green to yellow you should slow down and stop, unless you were very close to the signal and stopping suddenly would cause an accident. You must never speed up after you see the yellow signal.

2. When you want to turn or change lane, give signal using indicator lamp or hand signal well in advance. When you wish to slow down or stop give hand signal well in advance.

3. Never drive on wrong side of the road, or break One Way, even for a small patch. Your attempt to save you some time, is a nuisance and a danger to all.

4. Always follow lane discipline. For example, if you want to turn right, choose right lane well in advance and stop in right lane near the traffic junction. Arrows on the road show which lane is for which direction. DO NOT go into wrong lane in order to be close to the signal. It is a big nuisance to all.

5. Never stop or park a vehicle in prohibited zones, for example within 15 meters from a bus stop, or within 50 meters from the traffic signal junction, or on bridges / footpaths, or at any other prohibited places having explicit no parking sign displayed.

6. Never drive a vehicle without a valid license or give the vehicle to a person without a valid license.

7. Overtake carefully. Never overtake where it is not allowed. (e.g. where there are two unbroken yellow lines at the center of the road).

8. Know and follow the traffic signs on the road strictly.

9. Get PUC check done every six months and keep the certificate. Always carry driving license (which should be original) and other vehicle papers (RCTC book and vehicle Insurance, which can be attested photocopies).

As a team, Let’s also do these following things, so that we contribute to making a cleaner and quieter environment

· Let’s stop the engines at the signal junctions, when you have to stop more than 30 sec.

· Let’s keep our vehicles tuned. Let’s do PUC check regularly. Let’s have cleaner air.

· Let’s use our Horns to an absolute minimum. What’s the point in starting to honk horn when it turns from red to green? Let’s have patience. Let’s have a quieter surroundings.

· Let’s use bicycles for shorter distances. Let’s do vehicle pooling when we can. Let’s use the public transport when we can. Let’s work towards reducing traffic as much as we can.
