Avoid applying foundation if your skin is prone to acne and pimples. Young women better use a concealer and then a facial powder.

Dab and pat the concealer on your face. Do not rub it on.

Use Vaseline to clean your skin rather than using other chemical cleansers.

Always test the cosmetics on the back of your palm before applying them directly on your face.

Use blotting sheets to remove the extra oil from your face.

The four key steps to good skin are cleansing, exfoliating, moisturizing and applying sunscreen.

What is Trichology ?

What is Trichology ?

If you have a problem with your hair or scalp the specialist to see is a trichologist in the same way you would see a dermatologist for a skin problem. They can treat hair loss, baldness, scaling of the scalp, itching, hair breakage, dryness and oiliness amongst other things.

A trained trichologist should have studied and successfully completed a recognised Trichology Educational Program and VirtualHairCare would recommend that you go to a trichologist who is a registered member of an organisation such as the International Association of Trichologists.

What to expect from a consultation with a trichologist

Hair is a very sensitive ‘barometer’ to imbalances in the body – factors such as poor nutrition, medical or genetic problems, medication and stress can adversely affect their hair and scalp. During a consultation expect to be asked to give a thorough medical history. You may even be asked to take a blood test. All this information will enable the trichologist, in most cases, to identify the cause of your problem and where possible, treat it.

Causes and Remedies for Dark Skin

Dark skin can be a bane for people who crave a fair complexion. Though a lot of people have naturally dark skin, darkening of skin could also be due to hyperpigmentation and various other reasons. A dark colored skin has more of skin pigment Melanin, as compared to a fair skin. Unfortunately, increased quantity of melanin can cause the skin to look blemished and patchy.

Causes for Dark Skin

The causes for a dark skin or complexion could be many. Some of the most common ones are –

Heredity - People who have a dark skin often have children who are dark-skinned too. The genes seem to pass on from generation to generation.

Hyperpigmentation - In this condition the skin produces too much of the pigment melanin, causing the skin to become darker than usual.

Skin disorders - Conditions such as Lichen Simplex Chronicus is a skin disorder that causes severe itching that leaves the skin thick, dark and patchy.

Sun rays - Over exposure to sun causes the skin to tan. This is a natural mechanism, wherein to protect itself from the harmful UV rays of the sun, the skin produces more of the pigment melanin which shields the penetration of UV rays into the skin.

Glow Your skin

The party season brings with it a lot of fun. It also means a lot of late nights, rich unhealthy food, too much alcohol and, for the ladies, too much make-up.

Unfortunately, these are a surefire recipe for skin problems.

Many people walk into skin care clinics after Christmas and New Year celebrations, complaining of dull, patchy, tired looking skin, dark circles, flared up acne and loss of glow.

Ban make-up:
Avoid make-up for two weeks. Use only face wash and moisturiser. At the most, use a little loose powder on your face. Let your skin breathe for a few days.

Scrub it up:
Use a mild face scrub on alternate days. You can use any commercial apricot scrub or a homemade scrub of coarse gram flour or oatmeal, mixed with water, to form a paste. Gently rub for 10 minutes; then rinse to remove the layer of tired, dead cells.
